Apitherapy is therapy using bees that has been used for more than 3000 years in traditional Chinese medicine and is now recognized internationally. Many countries now allow apitherapy treatments, including the United States, the European Union, Japan, China, Vietnam, Indonesia and Malaysia.
In Thailand, professional agriculture development and promotion center officers are being trained to use bees as specialist treatment directly from Master Wu Chong Ying. The training sessions focus on techniques for treating diseases that are most common in Thailand such as paralysis, neck and back pain, pain in lumbar muscles, headaches, migraines, allergies, gout, leg cramps, period cramps, high blood pressure, diabetes, hemorrhoids and osteoarthritis.
During the first trial of a recent study, Apitherapy was used to treat volunteer promotion center officers with symptoms such as locked fingers, knee pain, and hemorrhoids. Nearly all showed marked improvement and relief. Before the treatment, the patients were tested for allergies to alleviate risk of allergic reactions to bee venom.
Currently, the center is now providing Apitherapy treatments to a large number of persons, as many as 10 patients a day, with the average being 4-5 persons. free of charge. Before treatment, a patient’s history and diagnosis will be recorded. After treatment, results show that more than 80% of patients have recovered or been cured.
However, there are some limitations with Apitherapy. The Apitherapy cannot be used with patients with heart or kidney diseases, bone fracture, diarrhea, infection or have open wounds. Women who are menstruating or are pregnant as well as children aged less than 10 years old should also not be treated. Moreover, Apitherapy should not be administered with patients who drink alcohol or have alcohol present in their blood because this can cause an allergic reaction to the bee venom and could even lead to death.
