For those born with the sort of chin they feel unhappy about, the psychological impact can certainly lead to a lack of self-confidence. With chin augmentation completed by the use of serile synthetics under a surgical procedure, the outcome could be a far more harmonious balance to a person's face with altogether better features to make one feel a lot better about themselve. Whether a person's chin is receeding, weak or just too large, a chin augmentation will do a world of good.
About the Procedure
You will first be laid on an operating table and placed under anesthetic. Your surgeon will have already decided whether to use bone or fat from your harvested cadaver tissue. (If it is only a slight augmentation you desire, silicone, Dacron or Teflon may be used instead.) These will be either inserted through your mouth along the upper lip or through an incision directly under your mouth. He will next use a bone saw (chisel) to make a second cut through the jaw bone, and the jaw bone is then moved forward into the required position and wired or screwed in place. Finally, your surgeon will close the incision with stitches.
Length
Depending on the complexity of the procedure, chin augmentation operations take around 30 minutes to 1 1/2 hours. The sutures are usually removed in five to seven days.
Benefits
Besides a physical boost to your appearance, your self-confidence will be rejuvenated.
Who is an ideal candidate?
An ideal candidate would have a chin that is relatively too small or receeding. They should be free of any pre-existing medical conditions and active diseases. The shape and size of his/her chin would also be draining self-confidence.
Recovery
Immediately after the procedure, you will be hospitalized for a couple of days, so that your surgeon and nurses can monitor your recovery. You may be asked to wear a supporting brace during sleep to ensure that the tissue and implants are stable in the best possible position. You can expect to experience some bruising, but this is just normal. It should, however, disappear after a couple of weeks. Your surgeon will schedule you to have the stitches removed about a week after the surgery and make an appointment to see you a couple of months after to ensure that your chin has healed well and that you are happy with the final result. Full recovery takes on average about 2 months. Nicotine may encourage scarrings, so it is advised that during the complete recovery period to either quit smoking or seriously cut down.
