Lip Augmentation
Lips are perhaps the most sensuous part of the human body; they are used for smiling, kissing and even whistling happy tunes. Some people are more than satisfied with their lips, but there are others who would prefer a plumper, fuller pair. Due to the age factor, our lips lose a lot of their former pride; they become wrinkled, lined and lose their volume. Lip augmentation is, therefore, to assist in revitalizing their youthful appearance.

Synonym
Lip enhancement & Lip implants

About the Procedure
In regards to the procedure, there are several options to choose from:

Sheets of collagen is produced from the Alloderm of cadavers. These will be inserted through slight incisions made on the inside part of the lip. Once in place, they will integrate with the natural tissues

The surgical method of Fat Grafting is the method of inserting your own fat into your lips to achieve more fullness and plumpness. This technic often leads to permanent results, but that very much depends on the individual. It’s your own fat, so it is impossible to decipher prior to surgery whether or not your body is going to absorb it. Repeat visits to the doctors will be needed to sustain the desired result.

Unlike some of the other options we've listed above, synthetic implantable materials such as Gore-Tex and SOftForm are able to afford lasting-long-lasting results. Yet, however, since they are synthetic, there is the possibility of an allergic reaction. Artecoll is a synthetic material that plumps up the lips. Because it's synthetic, you are at higher risk of having an allergic reaction to it than if you receive an injection of collagen or fat, but it lasts longer than either.

Let's look in depth now at some more possibilities:

Autologen is an injection of your own collagen, extracted from another place on your body. The results are only temporary, but this may be good for people who aren't ready to commit to a permanent result.

Collagen which is extracted from cows is injected into the lips. The results are temporary lasting 4 weeks to three months.

Dermalogen is collagen extracted from deceased human donors. The effects are only temporary, but your body should not reject it.

Fascia injections use a specific type of connective tissue harvested either from your own body or from a deceased human donor. It can be implanted surgically or injected.

HylaForm is a material made from one's own natural body substances. You will, however, need repeated treatments to maintain the result as it's only a temporary effect.

Restylane is a clear gel which contains natural hyaluronic acid. Your body will absorb it within about six months of the injection.

Length
Lip augmentation with injectable fillers is a very quick and simple procedure. It typically lasts only about 30 minutes, but this very much depends on the patient.

Benefits
Your own self-confidence will be boosted by the benefits reaped. These include; far more balanced facial features, restoration of lost volume and shape and, altogether, a much more sensuous appealing face.

Who is an ideal candidate?
A candidate who would not be ideal would have suffered from any of the following:
* Accutane within six months prior to procedure.
* Collagen/scarring/ connective tissue disorders
* Lupus
* Active diseases such as diabetes
* Clotting complications
* Excess oral plaque or dental abscesses

Recovery
Immediately following the surgery, you should feel discomfort around the lips as the area will probably be swollen. This may well effect your food and drink consumption for a few days; you should also feel some numbness. This is normal and in the event you feel some pain, your doctor will be able to prescribe you the appropriate medication to deal with it. During this period, it is advised to avoid all mouth-to-mouth contact with anyone. After about 7-10 days you will have to return to the center to have the stitches removed. Your doctor will schedule a follow-up to evaluate how well you have recovered and determine whether you are pleased with the result

Planning your surgery
Before preparing for the treatment, it is important to find the right specialist. Here are hints on how to seek out the best:
• Analyze your potential doctor’s credentials, training and license.
• Inspect all doctor's ‘before and after’ photos and personally speak with former patients.
• Ask about what kind of chemical peel the doctor would plan on using and the strengths and possible side-effects.
• Inquire into how many treatments would be needed for the best possible final results.
• Identify the kinds of back-up support available.

Preparing your surgery
As you will be placed under anesthetic, your surgeon will advise on your food and drink consumption prior to the surgery.

Risks / Complications / Side effects
Relatively speaking, there aren’t too many risks associated with lip augmentation, but there are enough to pay attention to. Much of it depends on the method you choose.

In regards to synthetic implants, there may be infection and irritation, and perhaps your body will attempt to refuse it.

In regards to permanent injectables, there is the possibility of inflammation, extrusion and even infection.

There are also possible allergic reactions which can range from prolonged redness, swelling or itching, to firmness at the injection site. Other possible complications include bleeding, lip asymmetry, migration and extrusion of the implant. Normal swelling and bruising lasts from 3 days to a week.

Price range
USD 500-1,900
