Chiropractic
Chiropractic is a holistic ayurvedic treatment which focuses on complications of musculoskeletal and nervous systems, and treats general health disorders, particularly those specifically related to the spine. It was discovered in 1895 by D D Palmer. He believed that all diseases are the result of misalignments of the spinal vertebrae. This is caused by an interference with the flows of nerve energy from the brain to the body's tissue cells. Chiropractic is not only limited to back pain, but also to neck pain, pain in the joints of the arms and legs and headaches. It is a controversial treatment which has never been scientifically proven. This is the same as other alternative treatments where disbelievers jump on the band-wagon and debunk anything that can not be proven.
About the Procedure
Firstly, your chiropractic practitioner will, with spinal manipulation, use vertebral projections as levers and rapidly - but carefully - apply measured force to the joint that carries it past its voluntary range of motion. This involves the use of hands or a device to apply a controlled, sudden force to a joint, moving it beyond its passive range of motion. You may hear a cracking sound which is in fact, a vacuum-created, nitrogen bubble bursting within the joint. In contrast, with spinal mobilization procedures, your joint will remain within its passive range of movement.
Planning your surgery
When planning Chiropractic treatment, it is essential to see out a practitioner who has a proven successful history of giving this kind of treatment. It is advised, too, to consult former patients.
Preparing your surgery
Prior to the treatment, your practitioner will examine your medical background and perform a physical examination, with a special emphasis on the spine. They may also conduct other examinations or tests which include x-rays. If he or she decides that chiropractic treatment is suitable, he or she will design a treatment plan.
Risks / Complications / Side effects
It is very rare, but some people have suffered a stroke due to undergoing this treatment. Some of the other possible risks associated with Chiropractic treatment include: • Headaches • Tiredness * Pain
After your surgery
Your practitioner may advise you to return for follow-up treatment every 2-4 weeks.
