Japan’s Ministry of Welfare reported in 1957 that shiatsu was "a technique which refers to the use of fingers and the palm of one's hands to apply pressure to particular sections on the surface of the body for the purpose of correcting imbalances of the body, and for maintaining and promoting health. It is also a method contributing to the healing of specific illnesses." Shiatsu is a branch of original Japanese massage (Amma). Shiatsu, literally means: Shi = 'finger,' Atsu = 'pressure.'
About the Procedure
First, you will be laid down on a special massage mat and told to relax. Your therapist will apply pressure to the areas where there is vital life energy until the flow returns to normal and excess or blocked energy is dispersed, cicrculation improves, stiff muscles loosen and tension fades.

Preparing your surgery
Prior to the treatment, your therapist will ask about your medical background which will involve your family’s. They will also perform an examination of your body to evaluate the energy imbalances. On the day of the treatment, you should wear loose, baggy and comfortable clothing and not eat a large meal just before the treatment.
