Swedish Massage
Swedish massage is one of the most popular types of massage therapies in the Western world. This kind of massage, using stroking, kneading and tapping, is aimed at relieving muscular aches and pain, enhancing blood circulation, improving flexibility, creating relaxation, detoxifying, decreasing swelling and altogether rejuvenating the body and mind. Swedish massage is often simply referred to as classic massage.

About the Procedure
There are quite a few steps in the Swedish massage procedure, but it depends on your masseur or masseusse as to which sequence they will perform. A sample massage would go like this.

You will first be laid on a special firm massage mat and your therapist will apply oil to your body. They may then use the following sequence:

1) Effleurage (rhythmic strokes)
2) Petrissage  (kneading)
3) Oscillatory movements (vibration)
4) Friction (pressure)
5) Hacking (slaps/chops)


Length
This kind of massage usually lasts about 1 hour.

Who is an ideal candidate?
An ideal candidate would have both physical and psychological illnesses.

Who is not an ideal candidate?
A candidate who would not be ideal would have the following:
* A infectious skin disease, rash or open wound.
* Just had surgery
* Just had chemotherapy or radiation
* Osteoporosis
* A tendency of blood clots
* Heart disease
* Tumours
* Abdominal hernia
* Pregnant
* Epilepsy
* High blood pressure

Recovery
It is recommended that follow up your massage with continual monthly treatment.

When seeking out your masseusse, it is important to ensure that she is certified and experienced.

Preparing your surgery
It is advised not to have a heavy meal before the massage. You ought to wear loose baggy and comfortable clothing.

Risks / Complications / Side effects
The only risk invloved with massage is that your masseuse is unqualified and injures you.
