Medical Check Up
A health check up is a preventive procedure which ought to be taken every 5 years (under 40 years of age) and every 1-3 years (over the age of 40). This procedure evaluates a family's medical history and conditions and gives the patient a partial or complete medical examination.

About the Procedure
During your health check-up, your doctor may apply any or all of the following preventive tests:

• Screen for early detection of diseases
• Give vaccinations
• Prescribe medication
• Listen and advise on healthy activities/habits
• Evaluate your family’s medical background
• Examine your listening, visual and hearing skills
• Check your weight and height
• Evaluate your psychological well-being
• Check your blood pressure and cholesterol levels
• Examine your breasts
• Check your sugar level
• Take x-rays
• Take blood samples
• Perform a peripheral smear
• Examine your faeces and urine
• Perform ultrasound of your abdomen
• Check for deficiency of iron
• Ask about your appetite
• Ask about any alcohol/narcotics dependence


Types and Options
There are 3 types of health check-ups that may or may not be undertaken at the same time:

Primary prevention: This is where vaccinations are given to protect against diseases such tetanus and measles.
Secondary prevention: This is performed to examine for diseases.
Tertiary prevention: This is in regards to advice on health management to prevent such diseases as liver or heart disease.
